GINGOOG CITY – “To sustain and enrich city’s culture as essential dimension of human existence in the sphere of cultural development, Mayor Marie de Lara Guingona has signed Executive Order No. 32 series of 2014 creating Gingoog City Council for Culture and Arts (GCCCA) pursuant to the Memorandum Circular No. 2002-81 of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) dated May 17, 2002 and in line with Sangguniang Panlungsod Resolution No. 2014-377.
“Being mandated under section 447 of the Local Government Code of 1991, this administration purposively provides for the establishment of a local council whose objective is the promotion of history, culture and arts in this city composed of 79 barangays”, stresses the local chief.
On the other hand, City Councilor Melleanette Mercado says that “as the co-chair of this council, I together with my members will assist our mayor to formulate policies, plans and programs for the enrichment and sustainability of Gingoog’s Higaonon cultural heritage; ensure the protection and conservation of the city’s cultural and historical heritage; and encourage the development of local cultural industries”.
“Serving as the chairman of the Tourism Council, I together with my members and Tourism Office personnel have to see to it that there will be a close coordination between tourism and GCCCA and the private sector for the conduct of cultural events during city’s annual fiesta, Charter Day and Christmas activities”, states retired Judge Potenciano de los Reyes, Jr.
“In view of the creation of GCCCA, my incumbent administration definitely encourages the ever increasing number of men and women who have become artisans and authors of culture in their own community to be more dynamic for cultural development”, concludes the lady mayor.
