GINGOOG CITY – “Women are essential in every aspect of this local government. In this world of equality, both women and men have capacities to make a better today and brighter tomorrow”, relates Mayor Marie de Lara Guingona as she joins with all women in this month-long celebration of women’s power with this year’s theme “Juana, Desisyon Mo Ay Mahalaga Para Sa Kinabukasan Ng Bawat Isa. Ikaw Na!”
The lady executive has appropriated P519,000.00 budget for 2015 various projects, programs and activities that certainly enhance women’s capabilities and empowerment in collaboration with the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) under its Women’s Welfare Section managed by Cindy Gomonit Duque assisted by Trisianni Raya and Edna Morilla.
Quoting Pope Francis’ message on women during His Holiness visit in our country, Mayor Marie re-told, “women have views that men could hardly see and tell. This simply means that women’s ideas, suggestions and undertakings should be considered and regarded for general welfare.
In this time where gender and development (GAD) has been profoundly highlighted, the Guingona administration together with the SP Committee on Women’s Welfare chaired by City Councilor April Rose Vosotros see to it that women’s rights and benefits under the Magna Carta and other related laws should be given importance.
In driving away from violations, abuses, discrimination and violence against women and their children (VAWC), the chief executive, along with the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has been advocating the core substance of Republic Act 9262 to all 79 barangays by institutionalizing Barangay VAWC Desk that responds to complaints, victims and penalizes perpetrators in line with the due process of law.
For more women empowerment and leadership skills development, Hon. Vosotros has been backing up necessary allocations and has been motivating officers and members of the Kalipunan ng mga Liping Pilipina (KALIPI) led by their federation president Teresita Wasil who have already organized 65 barangays who continually assist for women development.
Being the focal person, Mrs. Duque says, “our office has acknowledged the consistent support of the city mayor who just approved the budget for significant programs for the well-being of women like the series of seminars for stress and anger management of disadvantaged women whose role as mothers is quite vital for their children and family”.
“Our LGU continues empowering our women as stakeholders for familial growth and citywide progress. Both the executive and legislative bodies highly regard for their total human development. “Mabuhay ang babae! Mabuhay ang mga kababaihan!”, Mayor Marie stressed.
